  Principals Perspective - BRANDON BIRTCHER
Brandy Birtcher, President of Birtcher Development and Investments, is an innovator constantly in search of new and better ways to conduct “business as usual.” We have worked with Brandy and the team at Birtcher on numerous marketing assignments since 2005, and have always found his business ideas to be both enlightening and inspirational. It is for these reasons, and because he’s a hard guy not to like, that we have asked him to lead off our "Principal’s Perspective", a new Q&A column that shares the views of Southern California business leaders.

Idea Hall: What are the challenges facing your business today?

Birtcher: “Two of the bigger challenges facing the commercial real estate development industry and our tenant base today include 1) the uncertain outcome of federal and state policymaker action pertaining to deficit reduction, tax rates, FASB 13 and overall anti-business rhetoric, and 2) the collateral damage that has resulted from the severely wounded domestic and international financial system.”

Idea Hall: How have you adapted to the dramatic economic changes of the past two years?

Birtcher: ‘We have focused the Birtcher Development team on servicing the needs of those companies requiring custom or build-to-suit facilities anywhere in the US. Companies are realizing that this is an opportune time to take advantage of extremely low construction costs, record low long-term interest rates and low land values before inflation kicks in. We have assembled a team of leading architects, engineers and contractors to provide the highest level of service for build-to-suit projects, and have launched Birtcher Partners to meet this growing market segment.”

Idea Hall: How does marketing come into play in your business today?

Birtcher:
“Target marketing remains a critical component of Birtcher’s communication program with brokers and corporate real estate executives alike. By being aggressive in our e-communications, we have become exposed to numerous development and acquisition opportunities that we otherwise would have missed.”

Idea Hall: How do you prioritize your marketing budget?

Birtcher: “We’ve been committed to a regular public relations and online marketing presence that reminds the market on a consistent basis as to who we are, what we do, and why we’re different. As we continue to develop truly innovative approaches and metrics for measuring success in development, we need to communicate those ideas to the market. Increasing our rifle shot marketing to our ultimate customers is a high priority, especially at industry conferences.”

Idea Hall: What is your favorite quote?

Birtcher: “Trust in the Lord with all you heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path.” Proverbs 3: 5 & 6

The Birtcher name has been synonymous with enduring design and creating unique business environments since 1939. Birtcher has developed more than 60 million square feet of office, industrial and retail projects throughout the Western U.S. and Southern California. Today, Birtcher Development & Investments is solely owned by Brandon Birtcher who carries on the family’s four-generation development legacy. Birtcher is currently focused on providing build-to-suits and sale leaseback transactions throughout the United States for companies that require expansion, consolidation or liquidity. www.birtcherdevelopment.com
