Social media continues to revolutionize the manner in which businesses communicate with their customers. The use of social media has taken on wide spread use across both the consumer and the B2B sector. Making social media work for business can be challenging, however, and we’ve seen more than a few instances where businesses fail to grasp the advantages and the limitations of social media.
We’re in and around social media on a daily basis, and we understand how to align strategies and tactics with realistic business objectives. Like any marketing strategy, the proper groundwork must be laid before the results can occur, and the results take time to occur. Social media does not grow exponentially overnight. It takes time.
In a nutshell, social is as much about understanding your customer’s communication behaviors as anything else. While by no means the definitive short list to success in social media, the points below are all worthy considerations as businesses utilize social media:
1. Before the launch of a Twitter feed, Facebook “like” page or LinkedIn group, consider whether and how each message will help grow your client base.
2. Be willing to update content frequently (think: daily) in order to achieve the best results.
3. The key to social media is the sharing of content. Don’t be afraid to retweet, comment or start a discussion on not only what you appreciate, but something you know potential clients will find valuable.
4. The main component of social media is engagement. Make new connections and start conversations with your new followers, “likes” and LinkedIn connections to increase brand awareness.
5. Manage social media content with your potential clients in mind. How can your business become a resource they can’t live without?
