The University of California, Irvine’s Center for Real Estate is instrumental in supporting real estate in the region and in the growth of tomorrow’s industry leaders. Idea Hall supports their commitment to real estate through media relations and the development of collateral marketing materials that further the market reach and brand image of the Center for Real Estate.

For 20 years, UCI has recognized real estate leaders that have made an exceptional impact on the industry. This past week at its annual Real Estate Awards luncheon, the Center for Real Estate honored several individuals for their contributions in real estate.

John O’Donnell, a pioneer in industrial development and a visionary leader in real estate, was awarded the Center’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Bob Campbell, Chairman and Co-Founder of CT Realty was recognized as the Power-Packed Philanthropist Honoree, and Greg Merage, CEO of Stoneridge Capital Partners received the 2010 Rising Star Award.

Dating back to 1972, John O’Donnell was a principal partner in industrial developments spanning from Southern California to Alaska. He began O’Donnell Property Services in 1985, a firm that would ultimately manage 26 million square feet of commercial space before being sold to Insignia Commercial Group 10 years later. He remains an investor in industrial developments in Mexico and Southern California through companies built and operated by his sons, and he humbly attributes his success to relationships, vision and pragmatism.

Peter Ueberroth, Managing Director of the Contrarian Group delivered the keynote address with the aplomb one might expect from someone who by his own admission graduated in the top 83rd percent of his class at San Jose State. Ueberroth is widely known for his successful organization of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, his service as Commissioner of Major League Baseball, and his keen insights in management and leadership.

Ueberroth outlined a roadmap for business survival that included the need to be competitive, the value of having two complementary leaders at the top of any organization, and the importance of business involvement in government. He acknowledged the particular upside potential in the industrial and multifamily sectors, and expressed optimism in residential housing, offering that residential properties purchased during the current downturn stand to double in value in the 10 years following the market bottom.

Idea Hall supported this important annual event by producing a tribute video for John O’Donnell documenting his career and meaningful imprint on real estate. Please take a few minutes to view the video link above and share in the special acknowledgement deserving of John O’Donnell. We also worked with the Center for Real Estate to land prominent media coverage before and after the event, including front page coverage in the Orange County Business Journal.

The Center for Real Estate, through its nationally recognized academic and industry programming, is an integral part of the real estate community in Orange County. Idea Hall is honored to support their mission.
